Why Kids Should Study Life Science
October 21, 2019
Life science explores the evolution, origins, and expansion of all aspects of life. From the most minute microbe to the biggest mammal, science answers the “how”, “what” and “why” to the progression of life and about the world. Life science can cover a wide range of questions and fields, but the three primary types of science consist of physics, biology, and chemistry. It is common for sciences to overlap in their topics, such as physical or biological science linking to chemistry.
Why Exactly is it Important for Kids to Study Life Sciences?
Life science has an effect on the mind and there is an immediate and practical use of life sciences in everyday life. Without life science, kids would be missing out understanding the integral parts of life and the way they and everything around them lives. All of the life sciences can help to dramatically increase children’s capacities for logical thought and reasoning. It is beneficial for helping kids understand the environment and themselves as well as helps them to think rationally, which is extremely important as kid’s transition into teenage and adult years.
Life Science on a Day-to-Day Basis
Almost everything we do on a regular day-to-day basis requires some degree of understanding science. For example, gardening consists of chemistry (knowing the soil/water ratio per plant type) as well as biology (the growth of the plant from seedling to vegetable). Even things such as throwing a softball depend on understanding the forces of the ball (physics) when it is thrown or what causes the different types of weather (chemistry). And of course, children are naturally curious about almost everything, so the perfect time to learn about science is during childhood.
One of the most important roles of life sciences is to maintain the sense of wonder and awe in kids; the sense of wonder that comes from the exploring and understanding what is happening around them. Scientific studies are extremely important, both in the schools and at home. The “why” questions can become frustrating, but when the time is taken to explain the answer as much as possible, it will help kids retain the information and to genuinely want to learn more about life.
