VAKT Learning Style (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, & Tactile).
Visual learners come in various shapes and sizes. They can be defined as a learner categorized by Neil D Fleming in his VAK model of learning. There are various models included in this VAK/VARK model that also includes kinesthetic and auditory learning. Children that are dealing with learning disabilities in a visual learning setting use this style of learning to focus on seeing information to learn it. This can come in various methods such as viewing diagrams, overheads, chalkboards as well as pictures, graphs, and maps. These methods appeal to the photographic-like memory of visual learners. They take in details such as color, tone, brightness and other visual information from learning cues.
Advantages of being a visual learner
Being a visual learning has many advantages to being a visual learning. In a classroom setting. Visual learners can often have benefits because many visual aids are often used in these types of environments. Some of these advantages include skills such as excellent organization skills, the ability to follow directions with easy, and often have a great sense of spatial awareness and understanding of their environments. Students with dyslexia, Asperger’s, and ESL learners can break barriers of conventional learning by viewing images, and not have to focus on words, more so visual images.
Visual learners can often be found drawing their solution to a problem and are asking teachers to show them how to deal with issues, not tell them. They are hands-on learners that require seeing an image to fully grasp the concept of what is being explained. Visual learners can best be accommodated to learn through reading books with many pictures. It’s important to give them access to creative tools to create visual representations of concepts they’re trying to learn.
